Jimmy Choo Handbags and Sex and the City?
So what’s the connection?
Well, Sex and the City did for Jimmy Choo shoes what it did for Fendi handbags. For the average American used to spending $50 to $100 on a pair of shoes, it opened up a whole new experience for them. (Of course it didn’t hurt to have somebody as sumptuous as Sarah Jessica Parker running around the mean streets of New York City in her Jimmy Choo’s or Manolos.)
So who is Jimmy Choo? For those of you that care about realness, it should appease you that there is a real Jimmy Choo and he did indeed start up a shoe company. For those of you that love nostalgia, you’ll be sorry to hear that Jimmy Choo, the man, is no longer with Jimmy Choo, the company. Weird, huh?
Back in 1996, Jimmy Choo was founded by a Vogue fashion editor, Tamara Yeardly Mellon, and a couture shoe-maker in London, Mr. Jimmy Choo.
Sandra Choi is the Creative Director of Jimmy Choo. She came from Jimmy Choo’s previous couture business where she was the chief designer and manager. Just five years later, in 2001, a new partnership with Equinox Luxury Holdings, Ltd, helped with Mellon’s expansion plans. Equinox basically bought Mr. Choo’s shares out.
Mr. Jimmy Choo has returned to his couture shoe-making business in London. Jimmy has left the building!
And for those of you that may not be able to walk in a pair of Jimmy Choo’s you can still carry one around, a Jimmy Choo handbags that is. In Fall 2003, Jimmy Choo (the company, because remember Jimmy Choo the man could care less) decided to launch an entire Jimmy Choo handbags collection.
Their handbags had previously only been seen as add-ons to shoe sales (accounting for 5% to 10% of their sales). But with their new plans, they’re hoping to make handbags up to 30% of their sales. Hurray! Hurray! (Hurray for us that is - this means that there should be a bigger range to choose from!)
Jimmy Choo handbags current collection fall into the following lines: Tulita, Tuhula, Seasonal, and evening handbags. The Tulita and Tuhula lines offer leather finishes, decorative stitching and hardware. The handbags are in bright colors like jade, yellow, orange, white, and red. These are purses that are meant to be noticed.
Jimmy Choo’s seasonal bags offer a dizzying array of brightly printed cotton bags. These Jimmy Choo handbags are large and slouchy with out a lot of form. Jimmy Choo’s evening handbags offer metallic leather finishes as well as printed silk. Jimmy Choo handbags will set you back $750.00 to $1415.00 a piece.
