Versace, the Italian design house founded by the late Gianni Versace, has long been considered a leader in the realm of international fashion. Fabulous. Sexy. Elite. Elegant. Premium. Exceptional. Just pronouncing the word – “Vare-sah-chee” – is enough to conjure these words and images that have come to be synonymous with the luxury brand. The Versace handbag collection reflects the label’s high-quality, lavish appeal. Constructed of carefully selected fine leather and usually adorned with the famous Versace monogram, these bags convey confidence, sophistication, and class.

Purchasing a brand-new Versace handbag is likely to set you back a cool grand – or more. Indeed, the luxury brand’s handbags are so coveted that Internet-based auction houses report that once a Versace becomes available, it is usually only a matter of minutes before it is snapped up by a shopper in search of a luxurious accessory at a more affordable price.

Superior craftsmanship joins the finest quality materials and classic design elements that make Versace handbags an international status symbol. The Versace Group employs superbly skilled designers and stylists who work in teams dedicated to every individual line, of which there are now several in a veritable fashion empire. The modern-day Versace label had humble enough beginnings: As a child in Italy, Gianni Versace was taught to sew his own clothing by his mother, who ran a tailor shop. He eventually began designing the clothing as well and sold it out of his mother’s shop; later, he worked as a fabric buyer. When Gianni turned 25, he worked as a designer for labels in Milan. The Versace name was first included in one of these early collections for the Complice label. In 1978, the first Versace boutique opened in Milan, where Gianni sold his own designs in addition to other labels. Gianni’s own designs rose to the top of the sales. And then the 1980s arrived, smiling on economies worldwide and opening the doors to a fashion industry that began craving lavish, “rich” clothing and accessories.

Versace answered the call, and soon his boutiques began popping up all over the globe. Gianni built up his empire, adding labels and overseeing the execution of his visions by several assistants. Tragically, in 1997, Gianni was murdered at his Miami, Florida, home by an alleged serial killer. Donatella Versace, Gianni, sister, now carries on the design aspect; the empire was passed to his brother, Santo.
