Ugg handbags. Or more accurately, Ugg boots! Who hasn’t heard of those wonderful wooly hoppers from Australia?
“Beaudy, mate!”
Ugg are about as Australian as kangaroos and koala bears. Okay, in case you’re somebody’s dad who really has never heard of Uggs before, let me tell you if you had seen Pamela Anderson traipsing around in her Uggs before she realized they weren’t vegan, you would remember what a pair of Uggs look like. For everybody else, Uggs makes handbags too!
Back in 1979, surfer Shane Steadman discovered Ugg while in Australia. Turns out these little sheep skinned boots had been made in Australia and New Zealand for years but they weren’t considered cool.
Everybody had a pair but nobody would admit to them. Ugg was supposedly short for “ugly”!
Shane brought these boots back to the states, trademarked them and took them up to New York City to sell them.
They sold like hot cakes.
Na, not really, not at all. But if they had, they wouldn’t be as surfer cool to wear them.
Because it turns out New York City didn’t want to have anything to do with them. So Shane took the boots to California surfers who snapped them up like hot cakes. They’re super comfy to slip on after shredding some waves, dude.
Fast forward to 1995. Shane sells to Deckers.
In an amazing stroke of luck for us lovers of designer handbags everywhere, Deckers manages to not only keep the brand intact but also ensures that it prospers and grows. Suddenly, all of Hollywood is wearing Uggs in the hopes of looking like Jane Fonda or Racquel Welch cave girls.
So, you’ve got your Ugg boots on but what kind of handbag should you wear with that? Your Ugg handbags of course!
Ugg handbags currently have the following collections: the ultra, the classic, the fluff, the patch, and the collage. The Ultra look is about suede on the outside with fluffy patches of trim for decoration. You can pick up a small backpack, a grab bag, a shopper, a messenger, a rip bag and an ultra muff, which I’m not sure is technically a bag unless you’re bagging your hands?
Bags retail from $130 to $250 and come in a variety of natural and bright colors.
Ugg handbags classic collection has soft suede on the outside and comes in a wonderful assortment of pastels (blue, pink, lilac) as well as neutral colors plus red and black. You can pick up a shopper tote, a rip bag, a Malibu bag, a mini tube, a barrel bag or their pocket messenger. Bags in this line retail for about $120 to $230.
For the fluff, you have the Ugg pocket messenger bag but the whole thing has fluffy sheepskin on the outside! These Ugg handbags are $140 and come in neutral tan, pink or black.
The Patch collection is for when you want to play a little more with color. The patch refers to the fact that the bag is done up in large patches of color. You can pick baby blue, baby pink, lilac or sand. Your choices in this collection include the grab bag, the medium barrel bag, the mini grab bag and the rail shoulder bag with adjustable shoulder strap ($250.00). The Collage collection is similar to the Patch collection but offers a few different shapes. You can pick up a tube, mini tube or a shopper in baby pink, baby blue, and bright orange.
Changability and subtle loudness are the hallmarks of the ugg handbags. Even those who still don’t like the boots, love the handbags.
