Kenneth Cole Handbags are made via Kenneth Cole Productions who recently celebrated their 20th anniversary as a company.
If you want to hear a funny story about how Kenneth Cole came into being, read on.
Back in 1983, Kenneth Cole went to Europe, designed his collection and had his shoes made. He returned back to the states and tries to figure out how to sell them. He didn’t want to sell his shoes out of the Hilton but he didn’t have enough money for a show room either.
So he decides to park a truck out in Midtown Manhattan and sell his shoes there. But in order to get the city parking permit for the truck, he had to “shoot” a film there (NYC only gives permits to large trucks for film crews or utility trucks).
That’s where the “Production” part of his name comes from. That’s sneaky and clever and I love it!
Back in 1988, Kenneth Cole added the kenneth Cole handbags to his accessory line. You can also find a lower-price line, Unlisted, which was started back in 1989.
The Kenneth Cole handbags line is mostly leather. Popular silhouettes this season include the satchel, the clutch, totes, and hobos. Finishes include suede, woven Italian fabrics, smooth leather, printed cotton canvas, glazed leather and linen combinations, and pebbled leather. Current colors include black, white, tangerine, canary yellow, ocean blue.
The funny thing about Kenneth Cole handbags is their names. “Wood U B Mine,” sounds more like a song from Prince but it is a satchel in tangerine suede with a wooden round handle ($245). The “Frame of Reference II” is a cute little leather clutch that would go well with pointy toe shoes. ($140). “Love it or Weave it II” is a relaxed hobo in an Italian weave. “The Fold and the Beautiful” line offers larger bags in glazed leather ($175). These bags have soft pleating to which the “fold” in their names is attributed. The bags have simple chunky hardware and contrast edge painting. You can pick up a French purse in the same line ($55) to use if you like your accessories to match.
If you like the Kenneth Cole style but find it a little pricy for you, look for handbags in his Unlisted line. There you’ll find cheaper handbags made out of alternative materials such as vinyl, nylon, canvas, and rubber.
