The Guess Handbags story starts almost 30 years ago, in 1977, when the Marciano brothers (Maurcie and Paul) opened their first store in Century City, California.

In 1981, they managed to convince Bloomingdales to carry their jeans.  The story goes that Bloomies only did it as a favor to the two brothers, never expecting the jeans to sell that well.    The two dozen that they managed to convince Bloomies to carry sold out in a matter of hours.  This outcome is just the epitome of the Marciano brothers’ success with Guess that would follow for the next almost 30 years.

Guess has made a point of keeping magazine readers guessing who would be their next sexy model.  I think one of my all time favorites was Anna Nicole Smith back in 1994.  Who could have guessed how she was going to turn out?  Now the Marciano brothers have Paris Hilton modeling their Guess fashions for them. The sure seem to believe in the old saying “Any press is good press!!”

Guess Handbags is a relatively recent addition to the Guess line.  Guess started its handbags collection in 2002.  Their best sellers are from their Petals and metro line:  Petals banana bag ($58) and the Petals Bucket Bag ($58) as well as their Metro clutch ($72) and their metro large satchel ($75).

Guess handbags Signature lines include the Quatro G line, the Saloon line, the Magnifique line, the Tammy, the Lolita line, a Logo Gator line, and a mambo line.  The Quatro G line is a signature fabric shell with mock python trim.  This comes in a half flap, a large satchel, a Babies Top Zip, and a Satchel style handbag.  The bags range from $35.00 to $68.00.

Guess handbags do take all the guesswork out of finding a quality handbagThe Saloon line is a fun logo embroidered denim fabric with textured leather trim.  This line is available in a small half flap, a satchel and a slim clutch, ranging in price from $32.00 to $75.00.  The Magnifique line is a signature fabric shell with a shiny mock croc finish on the leather trim.  You can get this in either a smaller top zip ($46.00) to a little bit larger half flap ($62.00).

The Tammy Flap Purse ($50) coordinates with the Logo Gator line.  This purse has the G logo on a jacquard material with mock-croc accents.  You can tuck in the chain link and turn the whole thing into a clutch.  The Logo Gator line has the same pale pink colorings as the Tammy Flap Purse and is actually smaller ($35.00). Metal is making a comeback!  Oh no!

The Lolita line is soft velour with faux python trim  You can get a Babies Satchel for $32.00 or a small satchel for $68.00.

Guess’ banana bag seems to be their answer to the Fendi baguette.  You can find it in a number of different finishes from pink tweed to canvas with mock-croc and faux snake trims.

If you’re looking for fun trendy handbags with youthful appeal, take a look at what Guess has to offer in its handbag collections.  I’m “guessing” you’ll have a hard time just picking one.
